Two individuals arrested and firearm recovered

A 24-year-old man from Richibouctou-Village, N.B., and a 27-year-old woman from Bouctouche, N.B., have been charged following a dangerous driving incident in Moncton, N.B.

On September 4, 2024, at approximately 12:17 p.m., a member of the Codiac Regional RCMP stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation on St. George Boulevard in Moncton. After gathering the driver's documents, the officer returned to his police vehicle. The driver, a 24-year-old man, placed his vehicle in reverse, and began striking the police vehicle.

The member quickly immobilized the suspect vehicle to prevent further risk to the public. The driver then attempted to flee on foot, but was promptly arrested.

At the same time, a female also tried to flee police from the vehicle but was stopped by a member of the public and subsequently arrested. Following the arrests, members located and seized a sawed-off shotgun and ammunition in the vehicle.

The same day, 24-year-old Jean Guy Mallet, appeared in Moncton Provincial Court and was charged with possession of a prohibited firearm. He was remanded into custody, and is scheduled to return to court at a later date.

On September 5, 2024, 27-year-old Danica Leger, appeared in Moncton Provincial Court and was charged with possession of a prohibited firearm. She was released on conditions and will also return to court at a later date.
