PEI RCMP arrested a 36-year-old man from Panmure Island who barricaded himself in residence on Panmure Island.
At approximately 7:00 a.m. on Friday September, 6, 2024 RCMP were advised an individual's electronic supervision device stopped reporting. RCMP attended the known location of the man required to wear the device, who threatened police and barricaded himself in a residence. A brief stand-off with police ensued, but with the arrival of RCMP Police Dog Services the man surrendered and has been taken into custody. At no time was there a broader threat to the public in the area.
Several times the previous day repeated phone calls to the Montague RCMP detachment were received from this man harassing members and uttering threats to officers. He had also recently been arrested and charged with refusal to provide a breath sample when he was stopped by PEI RCMP Traffic Services members while driving to the Provincial Corrections Centre where is required to attend on weekends for previous incidents.
The man is facing new charges of breach of probation and uttering threats. He will be serving a weekend sentence at the Provincial Corrections Centrethis weekend, and will have a further court appearance next week.
