The Southwest Nova Major Crime Unit has charged a man in the 2022 homicide of 64-year-old Vernon Doucet.
At approximately 7:25 a.m. on February 16, 2022, Meteghan RCMP responded to a report of a home invasion on Second Division Rd. in Concession. The homeowner, Doucet, was severely injured during the offence and later died in hospital. His death was deemed suspicious and the Southwest Nova Major Crime Unit assumed control of the investigation.
On June 24, after a 28-month investigation, officers with the Southwest Nova Major Crime Unit arrested 33-year-old Tyler Colbert Andrew Langford of Weymouth. He's been charged with Second Degree Murder.
"We hope the arrest of Tyler Langford, and the charge laid against him, will help bring some sense of comfort to Mr. Doucet's family and community," says Cpl. Jeff MacFarlane, Acting Unit Commander, Southwest Nova Major Crime Unit. "Our investigation has come to a close; however, we expect to provide details regarding a second person being charged in the coming days."
Langford was remanded into custody and was due to appear in Annapolis Provincial Court today.
The Southwest Nova Major Crime Unit's investigation and arrest of Langford was supported by the Digby and Meteghan detachments, the Northeast Nova Major Crime Unit, Federal RCMP in Nova Scotia, and the Emergency Response Team.
