The New Brunswick RCMP's Police Dog Services (PDS) team is thanking residents and business owners in the province for their cooperation during training exercises.
Throughout the years, you may have seen RCMP police dogs and their handlers running on tracks on your properties, conducting mock searches in yards, and in other places. This allows us to keep our police dogs trained in order to better serve our communities and keep New Brunswickers safe.
"Not all of the situations that our police dog handlers and their canine partners respond to happen in the middle of the woods," says Sgt. Michel Litalien with Police Dog Services. "This is why it's important for us to occasionally expand our training exercises to include real-life situations in residential areas."
While these training exercises do contribute to enhanced patrols of residences and businesses, RCMP PDS training exercises do not entail actual police investigations, pursuing criminals, or looking for evidence or missing persons.
"You might see a police officer in a green uniform laying out a track in your backyard or on the property around your house or business," says Sgt. Litalien. "Residents should not be concerned."
The New Brunswick RCMP would like to thank residents and business owners for allowing us to use your properties. If you have any questions or concerns regarding RCMP police dog training in your area, please contact your local RCMP detachment.
