Prince Albert RCMP: male charged and firearm seized

On November 2, 2024 at approximately 2:30 a.m., Prince Albert RCMP were making proactive patrols in the Redwing, SK area and located a vehicle that was recently reported as stolen out of Prince Albert, SK. Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop but the vehicle fled at a high rate of speed. Officers followed the vehicle.

Shortly after, officers observed two adult males exit the suspect vehicle with a firearm and flee on foot towards a nearby residence. Officers arrested one adult male suspect at the scene. The other adult male suspect entered the residence with the firearm. Officers contained the scene and Saskatchewan RCMP's Critical Incident Response Team was engaged to assist. An adult male, Leslie Halkett, and two adult females were arrested at the residence. No injuries were reported to police.

During subsequent investigation, officers located and seized a sawed-off firearm inside the residence.

As a result of continued investigation, 30-year-old Leslie Halkett from Muskoday First Nation is charged with:

  • two counts, weapons possession contrary to order, Section 117.01(1), Criminal Code;
  • two counts, restrict/obstruct peace officer, Section 129(a), Criminal Code; and
  • one count, possession of a firearm when knowing possession unauthorized, Section 92(1), Criminal Code.

Leslie Halkett was also arrested on his outstanding warrant from Prince Albert RCMP for breach of court ordered conditions.

The other adult male and two adult females were later released without charge.

Leslie Halkett is scheduled to appear in Prince Albert Provincial Court on November 4, 2024
