On January 18, 2024, the adult male who was brought to hospital as a result of the serious assault that took place at a residence on Big Island Lake Cree Territory on January 2, 2024, has died of his injuries. The next of kin have been notified and victim services made available to them.
Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes has taken carriage of the investigation which has been deemed a homicide.
Doreen Oseemeemow, the 35-year-old female from Big Island Cree Territory who was arrested at the residence, appeared in court yesterday and was charged with one count of second-degree murder, Section 235 (1), Criminal Code. Her previous charges have been withdrawn.
Doreen Oseemeemow is scheduled to next appear in court on March 12, 2024.

Pierceland RCMP investigating serious assault

On January 2, 2024 at approximately 11:02 p.m., Pierceland RCMP received a report of a serious assault that occurred at a residence on Big Island Lake Cree Territory, Saskatchewan. Officers immediately responded. An adult male was taken to hospital with injuries described as serious in nature.
As a result of investigation, an adult female was arrested at a residence on Big Island Lake Cree Territory on January 2.
35-year-old Doreen Oseemeemow from Big Island Lake Cree Territory has been charged with one count, aggravated assault, Section 268(2), Criminal Code and one count, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, Section 88(2), Criminal Code.
Doreen Oseemeemow is scheduled to appear in court in Meadow Lake on January 4, 2024.
