Male arrested after breaching court-ordered 24-hour curfew

On July 9, 2024, Turtleford RCMP received a report that an adult male had tampered with an electronic device monitoring his court-ordered 24-hour curfew.

The male was on conditions awaiting the court process on a May 11 aggravated assault in North Battleford.

Saskatchewan RCMP's North Battleford Crime Reduction Team (CRT) began working to locate him.

Investigation determined the male was in a residence on Thunderchild First Nation. On July 11, officers from CRT and Turtleford detachment obtained a warrant and approached the residence. The occupants refused to exit it. With the assistance of Saskatchewan RCMP's Critical Incident Response Team, Police Dog Services and Remotely Piloted Aircraft System, seven individuals were taken into custody at the residence. Four were released without charge.

One of the individuals arrested was the male CRT was searching for. As a result of continued investigation, 29-year-old Donnie Okanee from Thunderchild First Nation is charged with:

  • one count, resist arrest, Section 129(a), Criminal Code; and
  • three counts, fail to comply with release order, Section 145(5)(a), Criminal Code.

In relation to a July 10 incident on Thunderchild First Nation, he was also charged with:

  • one count, assault, Section 266, Criminal Code; and
  • one count, uttering threats, Section 264.1(1)(a), Criminal Code.

25-year-old Tariq Nicotine from Thunderchild First Nation is charged with one count, resist arrest, Section 129(a), Criminal Code. He was also arrested on seven outstanding warrants from Turtleford and North Battleford RCMP.

27-year-old Logan Jimmy from Thunderchild First Nation is charged with:

  • one count, resist arrest, Section 129(a), Criminal Code; and
  • three counts, fail to comply with release order, Section 145(5)(a), Criminal Code.

Logan Jimmy was also arrested for breaching a conditional sentence order.

The three accused appeared in North Battleford Provincial Court on July 12, 2024.
