Major Crime Unit concludes homicide investigation

News release

On October 15th, 2023, the Yellowknife RCMP were called to a residence on 47 Street to respond to a report of an injured male. When officers arrived, they located 31-year-old Brandon Topilikon, of Yellowknife, suffering from a single stab wound. Despite life-saving efforts, Topilkon died as a result of the injuries.

The Northwest Territories RCMP Major Crime Unit conducted an investigation and identified a suspect. As investigators were working to gather evidence to support an arrest and charges related to this homicide, the suspect died. Investigators continued to investigate the homicide and have ruled out the potential that anyone else was involved in the death of Topilikon and, determined that this incident was related to intimate partner violence.

At this time the investigation into this incident has been concluded and the RCMP are not looking for other suspects. Brandon Topilikon's family has been kept up to date at every stage of this investigation and was notified of the conclusion of the investigation.

Yellowknife NT, October 15th, 2023

On October 15th at 8:01 a.m. the Yellowknife RCMP were called to attend a residence on 47 Street to assist EMS. RCMP were told that a man on scene had been seriously injured. The man was taken to the hospital and was pronounced dead a short time later.
This incident is being investigated as a homicide. The Northwest Territories RCMP Major Crime Unit and Forensic Identification Section are leading the investigation.
