Harbour Grace RCMP is investigating a break and enter that occurred on December 16, 2024, at a Newfoundland Power communications site located in Old Perlican. One of the suspects, 40-year-old Hope Cox of Carbonear was arrested and is charged with a number of offences. Harbour Grace RCMP is seeking assistance from the public in identifying the second suspect.
Shortly before 4:00 a.m. today, Harbour Grace RCMP received a report of the crime. Two suspects were caught on surveillance stealing copper wire. A company representative attended the site and observed two people at the scene. One fled on foot and the other fled from the area in a vehicle. The described vehicle was stopped by police a short time later. Cox, who was in breach of court ordered conditions, was found in possession of break-in instruments/tools and was arrested. The stolen copper wire was recovered. Cox attends court today, charged with the following criminal offences:
- Break and enter
- Possession of property obtained by crime
- Possession of break-in instruments
- Theft under $5000.00
- Mischief – damage to property over $5000.00
- Failure to comply with conditions of a release order
Harbour Grace RCMP is requesting the public's assistance in identifying and locating the second suspect. The individual can be seen in the surveillance video, wearing a Helly Hansen jacket and a gas mask. An image is attached.
