Digby RCMP charge man with drug and weapon offences

Digby RCMP has charged a man with drug and weapon offences following a traffic stop in Digby County.

On September 1, at approximately 7:40 p.m., Digby RCMP officers were on route to a non-emergency call when they observed a Ford Taurus near Exit 27, Hwy 1, with no license plate displayed. Officers conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle.

The driver was identified as Chanse Vancolpitts, 23, of Sackville, who was on conditions to not be in Digby County.

Officers arrested Vancolpitts for being in breach of his conditions. During the arrest, officers observed a collapsible baton on the rear seat of the vehicle. In subsequent searches of the vehicle and Vancolpitts, officers located and seized a quantity of substance believed to be cocaine.

Vancolpitts has been charged with Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking, Possession of Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose and Failure to Comply with Undertaking (five counts). He was remanded into custody and appeared in Digby Provincial Court on September 3. Vancolpitts was released by the court on conditions and is scheduled to appear in Digby Provincial Court on October 7 at 9:30 a.m.
