Bay Roberts RCMP arrests three individuals in theft ring; large amount of stolen property recovered

Three men are facing multiple charges following a report received on June 20, 2024 by Bay Roberts RCMP of break, enters and thefts at cabins in the area of Old Track Road near Spaniard's Bay.

The investigation and tips from the public led police to a property on Pond Road in New Harbour, where a search warrant was executed. A large amount of stolen property with an estimated value exceeding $60,000 was seized, including the following items:

  • Two utility vehicles (UTVs - Side by Sides)
  • Two all-terrain vehicles (ATVs)
  • Three generators
  • One boat and trailer
  • Two kayaks
  • Two chainsaws
  • One television
  • Assortment of tools and household goods

See attached photos. The rightful owners of the vast majority of the items have been identified.

Three individuals have each been charged with 11 counts of possession of property obtained by crime:

  • 44-year-old Mark Laite of Victoria
  • 43-year-old Christopher McKenzie of New Harbour
  • 49-year-old Harvey Pollett of New Harbour

All three appeared in court on June 21 and were remanded into custody until their next court appearance on June 25.

The investigation is continuing to identify possible additional suspects and to determine the total number of properties broken into by this break, enter and theft ring. Anyone with properties in the area is asked to check their properties and report any stolen belongings.
