A 26-year-old man from Sussex, N.B., has been charged following a sexual assault investigation in the community.
In October 2023, the Sussex RCMP began investigating a number of serious offences involving a 26-year-old man from the community, including drug trafficking, human trafficking, and sexual assault.
In December 2023, members of the Sussex RCMP detachment arrested the 26-year-old man for breaching his release conditions, and he was held in custody.
On January 15, 2024, Colton Sproul appeared in Saint John Provincial Court by way of tele-remand, and was charged with 13 offences, including:
- Four counts of sexual assault
- Three counts of sexual interference
- Sexual assault with a weapon
- Three counts of invitation to sexual touching
- Assault
- Uttering threats
- Breaching a release order
He was remanded into custody, and is scheduled to return to court on January 29, 2024.
Subsequent to the investigation, police have determined that there may be additional victims.
"This is still an active investigation and we are working diligently to understand if there are other victims," says S/Sgt. Tyson Nelson of the Southeast District RCMP. "We also want people to know that a sexual assault complaint can be made at anytime and there is no statue of limitations as to how long ago an offence occurred.
