RCMP’s Major Crime Unit investigating death as homicide

The New Brunswick RCMP's Major Crime Unit is investigating the death of a man in Dieppe, N.B., as a homicide.

On June 25, 2023, at approximately 10 p.m., members of the Codiac Regional RCMP responded to a report that a man had been shot at a residence on Louis Street, in Dieppe. When police arrived at the scene, they located a 26-year-old man inside of the residence who was suffering from gunshot wounds. He was transported to hospital with what were believed to be serious, life-threatening injuries.

The man has since died in hospital as a result of his injuries.

"Police believe this incident to have been targeted, and the man's death is now being investigated as a homicide," says Cpl. Stephane Esculier with the New Brunswick RCMP. "This is also believed to be an isolated incident."

At the time, the situation did not meet the criteria to issue an Alert Ready message. The New Brunswick RCMP is always ready to issue an Alert Ready message should there be a need or if there is an immediate risk to public safety.
