The New Brunswick RCMP is asking for the public's help in connection with an incident where gunshots were discharged at a police officer in the Western Valley Region.
On July 14, 2023 at approximately 2:30 a.m., an officer from the Western Valley Region detachment was proactively patrolling the area of Centreville, N.B. when he attempted to pull over three ATVs that were driving on Route 105. The ATVs failed to stop for the officer, and turned onto a side road. As the police officer followed them, several gunshots were discharged in the direction of the police vehicle. The police officer discharged his service weapon. The ATVs fled the scene in the direction of Highway 130.
Later that same morning, an individual was arrested in the area in connection with the incident. The police officer was not injured, and no injuries have been reported to police in connection with the incident.
The public can expect heavy police presence in the area as several RCMP supporting units such as Police Dog Services and Forensic identification Section have been deployed to assist with the investigation.
Anyone who was travelling in, or who resides in the area and may have security camera or dash cam footage from the time of the incident, or who has information that may help further the investigation, is asked to contact the Western Valley Detachment at 506-325-3000.
