On Wednesday, March 8, 2023, at approximately 12:30 p.m., Buffalo Narrows RCMP received the report of an assault and robbery at a residence located on the 1000th block of Seright Place in Buffalo Narrows, SK.
Officers responded immediately. Initial investigation determined two individuals were involved in the initial report. Officers were able to gather information to confirm the identity of one of the suspects involved, a 20-year-old male, who was believed to still be inside the residence on Seright Place.
Buffalo Narrows RCMP attended the residence to locate and arrest the male suspect. The occupants of the residence refused to answer the door for police. Officers obtained a Feeney Warrant and entered the residence to search for the male suspect.
Officers cleared the residence but continued to hear movement from the crawl space inside the residence. A further search resulted in officers locating evidence indicating the possibility of firearms being present.
Officers immediately set up a perimeter around the residence to help secure the area and provided instructions to neighbours on how to maintain their safety.
Buffalo Narrows requested additional Saskatchewan RCMP resources to assist: Dillion and Turnor Lake RCMP, the RCMP Emergency Response Team (ERT) and RCMP Police Dog Services (PDS).
While positioned outside, officers called-out to the occupants of the residence. An adult female exited the residence. She was arrested without incident and taken into custody.
RCMP ERT and PDS were able to successfully extract the male from the residence without incident and take him into custody.
There were no other occupants inside the residence. No firearms were located inside the residence.
As a result of the investigation, 20-year-old Johnny Thompson, from Buffalo Narrows, is charged with:
- Robbery, contrary to Sec. 344 of the Criminal Code;
- Resist arrest, contrary to Sec. 129(a) of the Criminal Code;
- Assault with a weapon, contrary to Sec. 267 of the Criminal Code; and
- Two counts, Failure to comply with a probation order, contrary to Sec. 733.1 of the Criminal Code.
Thompson appeared in court in La Loche on March 9, 2023.
26-year-old Jade Chartier, from Buffalo Narrows, is charged with one count, Possession of stolen property, contrary to Sec. 354(1) of the Criminal Code. She is scheduled to appear in court on May 10, 2023 in Buffalo Narrows.
