An 89-year old woman from Moncton has died following a collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian in Baie de Bouctouche, N.B. An 18-year-old was later arrested for leaving the scene of the fatal collision.
On August 1, 2023 at approximately 9:30 p.m., members of the Richibucto and Elsipogtog First Nation RCMP Detachments and Ambulance New Brunswick responded to a report of a single-vehicle collision involving a pedestrian on Highway 475, in Baie de Bouctouche. The pedestrian, an 89-year-old woman, died at the scene as a result of her injuries. The involved vehicle fled the scene before police arrived.
Shortly after, Richibucto RCMP members located the vehicle in Bouctouche and arrested an 18-year-old male for leaving the scene of the collision. He was released pending investigation and will appear in court at a later date.
A RCMP collision reconstructionist, the RCMP Forensic Identification Section and member of the New Brunswick Coroner's office are assisting with the ongoing investigation. An autopsy has been scheduled to determine the woman's exact cause of death.
