Yarmouth, Nova Scotia

News release

Yarmouth Town RCMP and Yarmouth Rural RCMP have charged a man in numerous break-ins in Yarmouth County.

Between March 21 and April 27, 2022, numerous businesses in Dayton, South Ohio and Yarmouth were broken into. RCMP investigators from Yarmouth Town RCMP, Yarmouth Rural RCMP and Yarmouth Town RCMP General Investigation began gathering information and evidence as part of the investigation. During each break-in, a combination of lottery tickets, cigarettes and cash were taken.

RCMP investigators determined that the person involved in the break-ins was a tall, thin, white man, who wore rubber boots, jeans and either a blue hoodie or vest or a plaid shirt. The man would also wear gloves and a mask during the break-ins. RCMP investigators also determined that the man was using a dark Honda Civic with a pink car seat located in the backseat of the vehicle.

On April 27, just before 9 a.m., RCMP received a report of an unconscious man sitting at a video lottery terminal (VLT) in Yarmouth. When RCMP arrived, they noted that the man was wearing rubber boots, a hoodie and a dark grey/blue hat. RCMP officers also noted that parked outside the establishment was a black Honda Civic with a pink car seat in the backseat of the vehicle. The man was subsequently taken into custody and transported to the Yarmouth Rural RCMP Detachment where he was held overnight.

Jesse Brenton Baker, 34, of Tusket, has been charged with the following offences:

  • Break and Enter and Commit (13 counts);
  • Disguise with Intent (5 counts);
  • Possession of Break-In Instruments (2 counts).

Baker has been remanded into custody and will appear in Yarmouth Provincial Court at 9:30 a.m. on May 2, 2022.

The investigations are continuing.
