Investigative Recap

October 24: Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crime Unit investigating suspicious death

October 25: Kamsack RCMP were conducting proactive patrols in Kamsack when officers observed two individuals involved in a suspicious transaction. Officers stopped one of the individuals, who had a loaded syringe in their possession. Investigation determined they purchased the syringe from an adult male. Officers located and arrested the male and seized six additional syringes determined to be filled with cocaine, approximately 30 opioid pills, a sum of cash and a can of bear mace. Joseph Keshane, 20, from Kamsack is charged with: two counts, possession for the purpose of trafficking, Section 5(2), Controlled Drugs and Substances Act; one count, trafficking, Controlled Drugs and Substances Act; one count, unauthorized possession of a weapon, Section 91(3), Criminal Code and; one count, possession of property obtained by crime, Section 354(1)(a), Criminal Code. He will appear in Kamsack Provincial Court on November 1, 2022.

October 26: Maidstone RCMP respond to multiple vehicle collision on Highway 16

October 26: At about 4:30 p.m., Big River RCMP received a report that a stolen SUV was travelling on Highway #55, south of Big River. Officers located the SUV and stopped it. Investigation determined it was reported as stolen from Main Street in Big River on October 23 and that the attached license plate did not match the vehicle. A pick-up that was reported stolen in Melfort on October 21 was found abandoned near where the theft occurred.

As a result of investigation, the adult female driver was arrested. Officers located approximately 8 grams of methamphetamine in her sleeve and some keys, cheques, identification and bank cards in the vehicle, some of which had been reported stolen from a Wakaw business on October 24.

As a result, Sherry Sayazie, 31, from Melfort is charged with: one count, theft of sports utility vehicle, Section 333.1(1), Criminal Code; two counts, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, Section 354(1)(a), Criminal Code; one count, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, Section 354(1)(b), Criminal Code; and one count, possession (methamphetamine), Section 4(1), Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. She will appear in Prince Albert Provincial Court on October 31, 2022. Big River RCMP continue to investigate.

October 27: Three arrested, 178 grams of cocaine seized after Saskatchewan RCMP Crime Reduction Team investigation into trafficking in Melfort area

October 27: At approximately 6 a.m., Pierceland RCMP received a report of an armed robbery. Investigation determined a motorist was driving on Highway #21 on Mudie Lake First Nation. The motorist came across a black compact SUV stopped on the roadway and a male laying on the ground nearby. The motorist stopped to help the male. As soon as the motorist exited their vehicle, the male got up, threatened the motorist with a machete and demanded the keys to their vehicle. Another male approached, assaulted the motorist and also demanded the keys to the vehicle.

The motorist was robbed of a sum of cash but was able to get back into their vehicle, drive away and call police. The male suspects were last seen heading north on Highway #21 toward Pierceland in the black compact SUV. One of the males was described as wearing jeans and a black hoodie. The other male is described as approximately 5'11" with a thin build and dark-coloured eyes. He was also wearing a black hoodie and a black neck warmer pulled up over his mouth/nose.

If you see these two male suspects or the black compact SUV, do not approach them. If you come across what you think could be a staged accident, do not exit your vehicle. Turn around and call police. October 27: At approximately 9:30 a.m. Nipawin RCMP received a report that a vehicle had been stolen from a residence on 4th Street North. Officers immediately responded and shortly after, located the stolen vehicle near a residence on 1st Street West. Officers obtained a warrant to enter the residence and arrested an adult male inside. Further investigation determined the male assaulted two individuals at a Nipawin residence on October 12, 2022.

Nathaniel Crate, 28, from Nipawin is charged with: one count, assault, Section 266, Criminal Code; one count, assault with a weapon, Section 267(a), Criminal Code; one count, fail to comply with a release order, Section 145(5), Criminal Code; and one count of theft of a motor vehicle, Section 333.1, Criminal Code.

October 29: At approximately 5:15 p.m., Tisdale RCMP received a report of a suspicious package behind a business on 100 Street in Tisdale. Officers immediately responded. Tisdale RCMP along with conservation officers from the Provincial Protective Services Branch, assisted in evacuating nearby buildings and rerouting traffic from the area. Saskatchewan RCMP's Explosive Disposal Unit (EDU) also responded and seized the package, which contained a small homemade explosive/incendiary device. EDU officers disabled the device. RCMP officers checked the surrounding area thoroughly and believed there were no further risks to the public in relation to this incident. No injuries were reported. Tisdale RCMP and the EDU continue to investigate and ask anyone with information to contact the Tisdale detachment at 306-878-3810. October 29: At approximately 5:45 p.m., Prince Albert RCMP received a report of a single vehicle rollover on the Northside Grid. The driver, a 27-year-old male from Saskatoon, was declared deceased by EMS at the scene. His family has been notified. The adult male passenger was taken to hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening. Prince Albert RCMP continue to investigate with the assistance of a Saskatchewan RCMP collision reconstructionist

October 30: At 9:25 a.m., a Swift Current Municipal RCMP officer located an occupied stolen car at a business on North Service Road. Swift Current Municipal RCMP officers attempted to stop the car. It fled, striking and disabling the police vehicle. A second Swift Current Municipal RCMP officer located the car on Highway #1 and also attempted to stop it. The police vehicle was forced off the road by the suspect car. The car continued, entering the eastbound lanes of Highway #1 near Gull Lake and driving in the wrong direction at extremely high speeds. Officers from Swift Current Rural, Maple Creek and Saskatchewan RCMP's Police Dog Services joined to help locate the car.

The car then entered Maple Creek, before returning to Highway #1. A spike belt was set up and the car drove over it, deflating two of its tires. It continued to drive at high speed. Officers were soon after able to manoeuvre the car off-road and arrest the two occupants. No police officers reported injuries. A number of police vehicles were damaged during this incident; two are no longer driveable.

Brandon Condon-White, 24, from Montague, PEI and Kendell Marie Hardt, 29, from Charlottetown, PEI are each charged with:

  • two counts, assault a police officer with a weapon, 270.0(2), Criminal Code;
  • one count, flight from police officer, Section 320.17, Criminal Code;
  • one count, dangerous operation of motor vehicle, Section 320.13(1), Criminal Code;
  • one count, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, Section 354(1)(a), Criminal Code;
  • one count, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, Section 354(1)(a), Criminal Code; and
  • three counts, mischief over $5,000, Section 430(3), Criminal Code.

Cordon-White is also charged with three counts, fail to comply with probation order, Section 733.1(1), Criminal Code and one count, operation while prohibited, Section 320.18, Criminal Code. Hardt is also charged with one count, fail to comply with release order, Section 145(5)(a), Criminal Code and one count, fail to comply with probation order, Section 733.1(1), Criminal Code. Both will appear in Swift Current Provincial Court on November 2, 2022.

October 30: At approximately 3 a.m., Carrot River RCMP received a report of a vehicle-pedestrian collision on Red Earth Cree Nation. Officers located an injured female. She was later pronounced deceased by EMS at the scene. She has been identified as a 36-year-old female from Red Earth Cree Nation. Her family has been notified.

The vehicle involved left the scene prior to police arrival. As a result of investigation, Carrot River RCMP located and arrested the driver at a residence on Red Earth Cree Nation approximately 4 hours later. Miller Nawankayas, 34, of Red Earth Cree Nation is charged with one count, operation of vehicle while impaired causing death, Section 320.14(3), Criminal Code and one count, failure to stop at accident resulting in death, Section 320.16(3), Criminal Code. He will appear in Melfort Provincial Court on November 3, 2022. A Saskatchewan RCMP collision reconstructionist and Nipawin and Smeaton RCMP assisted with the investigation.
