Earlier today, New Brunswick RCMP members and employees, along with special guests from across the province and Canada, came together for the Change of Command Ceremony to officially welcome Assistant Commissioner DeAnna Hill as the new Commanding Officer.
The formal Change of Command ceremony involved RCMP Pipes and Drums, a ceremonial troop, and a flag party. The handover of command of the New Brunswick RCMP was symbolized with a parchment signing and the transfer of the Divisional ensign to the new Commanding Officer, Assistant Commissioner DeAnna Hill. RCMP Commissioner Brenda Lucki oversaw the ceremony.
"I am honoured to have returned to a province that I love and to serve New Brunswickers, while leading the incredible employees of the New Brunswick RCMP. I am amazed each and every day by the selfless dedication and devotion our employees put forth in serving our communities," says Assistant Commissioner Hill. "I look forward to continue working closely with the province and our and law enforcement partners while focussing on public safety and member well-being."
A 32-year member of the RCMP, Assistant Commissioner Hill has a diverse background in a variety of policing environments across Canada, including General Duty Policing, Counter Surveillance, Protective Policing, Drug Enforcement, Customs and Excise Enforcement, with the bulk of her service on the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit, the Integrated National Security Enforcement Team, and the Immigration Task Force, all in Toronto. As a commissioned officer, Assistant Commissioner Hill has served in Intelligence and as the Criminal Operations Officer in both Federal and Contract Policing. Prior to becoming New Brunswick's Commanding Officer in February of this year, she was the Acting Commanding Officer in Newfoundland and Labrador.
"From Clair, to Sackville, from Miscou to Grand Manan and everywhere in between, the Commanding Officer of J Division has a big job," says Brenda Lucki, Commissioner of the RCMP. "I know Assistant Commissioner DeAnna Hill has the knowledge and experience to lead the New Brunswick RCMP with success."
As Commanding Officer, Assistant Commissioner Hill is responsible for leading New Brunswick's provincial police force in continuing to serve and protect New Brunswickers. There are more than 35 detachments and 1,350 RCMP employees in the province.
