A 33 year-old Moncton man has been charged with attempted murder and nine other charges following a late January shooting in Moncton, N.B.
On January 29, 2022, at approximately 8:50 a.m., members of the Codiac Regional RCMP responded to a report of a shooting incident on Lutz Street. When police arrived, they found a 44-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound. Police administered life-saving first aid to the man, and he was transported to hospital with serious life-threatening injuries.
The suspect fled the scene before police arrived. At the time, the incident was believed to be isolated and did not meet the criteria for an Alert Ready message. As part of the investigation, police identified a 33-year-old Moncton man in connection with the shooting incident. The man was arrested without incident during the morning hours of February 11, at a residence on Park Street in Moncton.
Michael Jean-Paul Aube appeared in Moncton Provincial Court on February 12 by way of tele-remand and was charged with 10 charges including:
- attempted murder
- aggravated assault
- assault causing bodily harm
- assault with a weapon
- carrying a concealed weapon
- possession of ammunition for a dangerous purpose
- possession of ammunition contrary to an order
- storing ammunition in a careless manner
- two counts of failure to comply with a probation order
He was released by the Court on strict conditions and is scheduled to return to court on March 1, 2022.
