A 35-year-old man has been charged with eight offences following a checkstop where a weapon and drugs were seized in Moncton, N.B.
On August 12, 2022, at around 1:30 a.m., members of the Codiac Regional RCMP stopped a car at a checkstop location on Main Street. The driver of the vehicle had several outstanding warrants, and was arrested at the scene without incident.
Following his arrest, police seized a loaded .22 calibre handgun, quantities of what is believed to be methamphetamine pills, and a quantity of money. The vehicle and the license plate were also determined to be stolen, and were seized by police.
Angelo Teare-Kotsabasakis, from Moncton, appeared in Moncton Provincial Court by way of tele-remand on August 12, and was charged with:
- Possession of stolen vehicle
- Possession of stolen property
- Unauthorized possession of a firearm in a vehicle
- Possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose
- Carrying a concealed weapon
- Possession of a restricted weapon without a valid license
- Unsafe storage of firearm
- Possession of Crystal Meth for the purpose of trafficking
He was remanded into custody and is scheduled to return to court on August 16, 2022, at 9:30 a.m., for a bail hearing.
