The New Brunswick RCMP Major Crime Unit has located human remains during the investigation into the suspicious disappearance of a 38-year-old man from Upper Cape, N.B, near Port Elgin.
On June 3, 2021, following information received from the public, police located human remains behind an abandoned mobile home on a dirt road known as Quarry Road in Coburg. Police were in the area conducting searches as part of the investigation into the disappearance of James (Jamie) Leard. An autopsy has been ordered to positively identify the remains, and to determine cause of death.
Jamie Leard was reported missing to police on May 28. The same day, his vehicle – a silver 2012 Mazda 3 - was discovered abandoned on Main Street in Springhill, N.S. Information gathered during the course of the investigation has led police to believe criminality may have been involved in his disappearance.
"We are still awaiting positive identification, so we cannot confirm yet that we have located the body of Jamie Leard," says Cpl. Hans Ouellette of the New Brunswick RCMP. "Our investigators have been in contact with his family to keep them informed of the discovery. We are continuing to diligently investigate what happened to Jamie Leard."
Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Jamie Leard, or who may have information that could assist the investigation, is asked to contact the New Brunswick RCMP's Major Crime Unit at 506-851-7281.
