Update: July 13, 2021 - The human remains that were found on June 3 behind an abandoned mobile home on Quarry Road in Coburg, N.B., have been confirmed as belonging to Jamie Leard. The investigation continues.
Update: June 9, 2021 – Through the investigation, police believe the date provided of when Jamie Leard was last seen at a home on Upper Cape Road was not accurate. It is believed that his death occurred on May 25.
The New Brunswick RCMP Major Crime Unit has determined that the suspicious disappearance of 38-year-old Jamie Leard of Upper Cape, N.B. was as a result of homicide. Two men have been charged with first degree murder in connection with his death.
He was reported missing to police on May 28. Later that same day, his vehicle was discovered abandoned on Main Street in Springhill, N.S. On June 3, 2021, police located human remains behind an abandoned mobile home on Quarry Road in Coburg, N.B. Police were in the area conducting searches as part of the investigation.
"We are still waiting for autopsy results and formal positive identification of the human remains located on June 3, however investigators have gathered enough information to determine that Jamie Leard died as a result of homicide," says Cpl. Hans Ouellette of the New Brunswick RCMP.
On June 5, two men and a woman were arrested in connection with the investigation. The woman was later released.
On June 6, 37-year-old Henry Alexander Joseph Pottie and 28-year-old Sean Patrick Patterson, both of no fixed address appeared in Shediac Provincial Court via teleremand. Both were charged with first degree murder. Both men have been remanded in custody pending a court appearance in Moncton Provincial Court on June 9, at 1:30 p.m.
The investigation is continuing.
