Motorists travelling through Terra Nova National Park can expect to see speeding enforcement from Parks Canada after Park Wardens were trained by Glovertown RCMP in the use of radar.
On May 3, 2021, Glovertown RCMP hosted a Radar Operator Training Course in Glovertown that included candidates from the RCMP, as well as two Parks Canada Wardens from Terra Nova National Park. As part of an ongoing partnership between the RCMP and Parks Canada, RCMP NL has provided Park Wardens with radar equipment and are offering the required training. This is the first such training course offered to Park Wardens, with other courses anticipated in the near future in Gros Morne National Park. This training will provide additional resources aimed towards the enforcement of aggressive drivers and the promotion of road safety within our National Parks.
Motorists can expect to see Glovertown RCMP and Park Wardens in Terra Nova National Park working together to conduct traffic enforcement.
RCMP NL reminds the public that, as Federal Peace Officers, Park Wardens have the same authorities as police officers in this province with respect to the enforcement of the Highway Traffic Act. Failing to stop for a Park Warden is the same as failing to stop for a police officer under the Criminal Code of Canada.
