One year ago today, the first case of COVID-19 in New Brunswick was confirmed by health officials.
It has been a difficult year, requiring great flexibility as we all learned to adapt to new behaviours. New Brunswickers have met this unprecedented challenge head on - working together to protect each other, our local businesses, and our province.
This past year has come with many valuable lessons among the challenges. I am inspired and assured by the heartfelt collaboration, compassion and selflessness demonstrated by New Brunswickers throughout the pandemic. We have all learned how to be there for each other, even when we have to remain physically distant.
The RCMP has adapted and adjusted to many new realities over the past year, but that has not affected the fundamental nature of the work we do. We continue to be there for New Brunswickers, prioritizing safety and security, and working closely with our partners and communities. Essential policing services, operations and investigations are ongoing, focussing on those causing the most harm in our province. We continuously strive to lead by example, to learn and grow, and to foster stronger relationships with the people we serve.
We still have a way to go before we can embrace life beyond COVID-19, but there is much hope on the horizon. We will get through this by maintaining our collective efforts to keep our province healthy and safe.
The public's role in public safety remains a vital one. Continue to report crime and suspicious activity to police, and to do what New Brunswickers do so well – look out for one another.
Stay the course and be safe.
