RCMP Criminal Record Check Advisory

July 7, 2020
Prince, Queens and Kings Counties, Prince Edward Island

News release

The RCMP has resumed some of their front counter services effective July 6, 2020 and provide the following updates to assist with the processing of a high volume of requests.

The opening of the front counter services includes basic criminal record checks but does not include vulnerable sector checks at this time.

The RCMP wishes to advise the public that the Covid-19 pandemic has significantly impacted the process to apply for a criminal record check and has caused delays in processing times. To ensure your check is processed as quickly as possible you must:

  • Attend the local detachment where you reside. Other locations will not process applications for persons who do not live within their immediate jurisdiction.
  • Properly complete the application forms, filling out all fields and providing all relevant information.
  • Bring clear photocopies of your two pieces of government ID with you. We will not be making any copies on your behalf. This would normally be a PEI driver's licence and a PEI Health Card.
  • Call first to ask questions. Don't waste a trip. There may be a significant wait time and social distancing with proper sanitizing is expected.
