Recent RCMP traffic enforcement in the southeast region of New Brunswick has resulted in 66 tickets and 13 warnings being issued, as well as a vehicle being impounded.
Between September 21 and 24, 2020, members of the Hampton RCMP conducted a traffic enforcement operation in urban and rural areas of Hampton, Sussex, Hammond River and Penobsquis.
In all, police issued 66 tickets for a variety of traffic offences, including speeding, failing to move over for emergency vehicles, failing to wear a seatbelt, driving while distracted, and failing to stop at a stop sign, in addition to other non-moving motor vehicle violations. A 32-year-old man from Saint John was stopped while driving without a licence, resulting in the vehicle being impounded.
"This enforcement operation was the result of complaints we received from the public about recurring issues in these areas," says Cst. Mike Alward of the Hampton Detachment. "More than 75 percent of the tickets issued were for people speeding at least twenty-five kilometres per hour over the speed limit, unnecessarily putting their safety and that of others at risk."
The public can assist in keeping dangerous drivers off the road by reporting them to police. If you see a dangerous or a suspected impaired driver, call 911. Your description of the driver, vehicle, licence plate number and direction of travel can assist police in making New Brunswick roads safer.
