On March 2, 2018 at approximately 2:00 p.m., Bonnyville RCMP General Investigative Section (GIS) members attended a rural residence in La Corey to followup with reported property thefts from several oil lease sites the previous evening.
After police arrived, a male who was known to police jumped into a truck and fled into a field behind the property. It was located parked on the side of a road nearby a short time later. When police approached the male exited the truck fleeing again by foot into a wooded area. The truck was reported stolen from St. Paul the day prior.
Police contained the area and Police Dog Services (PDS) were called in to assist. At approximately 4:30 p.m., the male was arrested without incident. Police seized a can of bear spray from the vehicle and the male was found to be breaching several court orders including a Canada-wide driving prohibition.
At approximately 9:00 p.m., Bonnyville RCMP executed a search warrant at the rural property and located another vehicle that was stolen from Vegreville in January 2018. The VIN had been tampered with and placed on a similar vehicle on the property. Both vehicles were seized.
