Enrollment
The Cadet Training Program prepares cadets for a policing career. The RCMP Academy is located in Regina Saskatchewan. Successful applicants are enrolled as cadets and attend the Training Academy for a 26-week training program. The Cadet Training Program is based on principles of adult-learning and community policing. Our training is delivered using a variety of methods, such as practical scenario training (problem-solving exercises), role play, lectures, panel discussions, research, presentations and community interaction.
Cadets are responsible to a large extent for their own learning and development but have significant support from trainers and their troop mates. They are required to seek out appropriate information, resolve problems in consultation with partners, and ensure continuous assessment and improvement of work practices. The Cadet Training Handbook provides detailed information about the training program.
Applicants are expected to enter the Cadet Training Program in good physical fitness condition. The training program is not designed for cadets to "get in shape", but rather to allow each cadet to enhance their education, skills and level of fitness. Cadets who are in less than good physical condition start training at a distinct disadvantage and are more susceptible to injury. These cadets struggle with both the physical and academic aspects of the Cadet Training Program. As police work is physically demanding, it is extremely important to maintain a high level of fitness.
Cadets will be required to complete a job-related physical ability test called the "PARE" within the first two weeks of training and again at the conclusion of training.
You need to have a fit cardiovascular system as well as good muscular strength and endurance. Applicants are encouraged to be prepared and maintain or improve fitness levels before applying.
The fitness program requires cadets to arrive at the Training Academy in good shape. The standards outlined below are minimum standards cadets should strive to meet. These are not optimal standards. If a cadet reaches only the minimum performance in all areas, this could set them up for failure. Cadets should work towards performing above the minimum standard in at least some areas.
- 5km run test
Mark out a route that covers 5km. Use a GPS or odometer where possible.
- Minimum Standard: 30 minutes
- Target Standard: 23 minutes 30 seconds to 26 minutes 30 seconds

Lower yourself down until your chin touches the towel. Press up to the starting position, ensuring your elbows are completely straight at the end of each repetition. Ensure your thighs do not touch the floor throughout the test. Do as many push-ups as you can without pausing or changing positions.
