Prince Edward Island RCMP are proud to announce the appointment of Cst. Stephen Duggan to the National Board of MADD Canada. Cst. Duggan has a long history of community involvement outside of his everyday normal policing duties with countless hours of educational talks in schools and community groups on the Island which made him a perfect candidate to join the MADD Canada Board of Directors. Cst. Duggan is the first person from PEI to join the MADD Canada Board of Directors.
MADD Canada's Mission to "stop impaired driving and to support victims of this violent crime" encompasses victim and survivor services, youth services, public awareness and education, public policy and technology in an effort to stop those using alcohol and/or drugs from getting behind the wheel of any vehicle.
Cst. Duggan is an Islander by birth having grown up in French River and attending school in Kensington. Cst. Duggan is a 14 year member of the RCMP and is currently posted in Queens District. Cst. Duggan is a Drug Recognition Evaluator (DRE), Standard Field Sobriety Test (SFST) evaluator and instructor and a Breath Test operator. In 2017, Cst. Duggan was awarded the PEI Crime Stoppers police officer of the year for the RCMP, for his various presentations to school and community groups regarding making the right choice and not driving impaired.
"I am passionate about the safety of Islanders and those who visit our Island. No one should be in danger of driving due to the careless decisions of others who drive under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. It's a choice that can save lives and a message that I am happy to promote to stop impaired driving on P.E.I. I know we can do better and I am stepping up to help."
Prince Edward Island will now have a strong voice at the table to work towards this vital task to stop impaired driving. Congratulations Cst. Duggan.
