Motor vehicle collision closed Alaska Highway, vehicle occupants injured

January 5, 2025 at approximately 5:10 pm, Teslin RCMP responded to a report of a collision involving a pickup truck and an SUV on the Alaska Highway at KM 1118, approximately 130 km south of Teslin.

The traffic collision necessitated a coordinated emergency response from multiple agencies, involving the extraction of occupants from both vehicles due to the extent of the damage sustained. Emergency Medical Services and Volunteer Fire Departments from Watson Lake and Teslin, as well as Yukon Highways and Public Works, attended as part of the emergency response. The Alaska Highway was closed to both lanes of traffic for approximately three hours.

Five people were travelling in the pickup truck and were transported to hospital and treated for minor injuries. The lone occupant of the SUV was also more seriously injured and transported to hospital.

Temperatures at the time of the collision were around minus 25 degrees Celsius and the road surface was reported to be slippery.
