Whitehorse RCMP investigation in Porter Creek subdivision leads to charges

On June 30, 2024 at approximately 8:30 am, police received a complaint about a public safety incident occurring in the Porter Creek area. Whitehorse Detachment officers contained the scene and asked residents to leave the apartment building for their safety. The Critical Incident Program was activated and the situation was resolved in a safe manner.

Subsequent to the investigation that ensued, Jaidyn Young a 24 year old male from Ontario, was arrested and charged with:

- Pointing a firearm

- Possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose

- Weapons possession contrary to order and fail to surrender authorization

- Careless use of a firearm

As the investigation continues, further criminal charges may result and Mr. Young has been held in custody for a court appearance on July 2nd, 2024. Whitehorse RCMP wishes to thank the nearby residents for their cooperation during this incident.
