West Hants RCMP arrest man after impaired driving crash

West Hants RCMP arrested a man for impaired operation after the vehicle he was driving crashed into a ditch on Hwy. 236 in Scotch Village. The man and a child passenger had no reported injuries.

On September 4 at approximately 3:45 p.m., West Hants RCMP responded to a report of a vehicle that had crashed in the ditch on Hwy. 236 near Scotch Village Station Rd. Both occupants, the man and a child, had safely exited the vehicle.

Investigators noted signs of impairment from the driver, and he failed a roadside breath test used to measure blood alcohol concentration. The child is not believed to have been secured in a child safety restraint "booster seat" at the time of the crash.

The driver was arrested and will face charges of Impaired Operation of a Conveyance, Impaired Operation Equal to, or Over, 80mg%, and Abandoning Child. He received a 90-day driving suspension and was released pending future court appearances.

The child left the scene with an adult relative.
