On November 8, 2024, at 7:00 am, Thompson Rural RCMP received a report of suspicious persons in a vacant home located in Tataskweyak Cree Nation.

Information obtained by police indicated that the suspicious persons were possibly armed.

Officers attended and surrounded two nearby properties, one vacant and the other habited. Officers instructed those who may be inside to exit the homes immediately. A 32-year-old male, from Tataskweyak Cree Nation, complied with commands and was arrested without incident.

Believing that there were additional suspects still inside the habited property, officers entered the home with consent and located two males within a locked room who were arrested without incident.

Upon entry into the locked room, officers noted a large amount of cash and drug-related paraphernalia within.

A search warrant was drafted and executed which led to the seizure of approximately $25,000 in cash, a large knife, baton and other drug-related paraphernalia.

32-year-old Melvin Beardy, from Tataskweyak Cree Nation, 25-year-old Anthony Runsewe, from Brampton, Ontario, and a 16-year-old male, from Winnipeg, were remanded into custody on charges including Possession of Property Obtained by Crime, Possession of a Prohibited Weapon and Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking.

Thompson Rural RCMP continue to investigate.
