Air pistol

On July 23, 2024, at approximately 9:50 pm, Thompson RCMP were called to the basketball courts on Thompson Drive for a male shooting his air pistol randomly at individuals using the venue. A 32-year-old male was struck in the face by one of the BB pellets while playing volleyball with friends.

Witnesses were able to identify what the suspect was wearing and which direction he headed. He was unknown to the victim.

Police attended Goldeye Crescent and located the suspect, 20-year-old Keenan Linklater. While pursuing on foot, an officer was shot at with the BB gun and struck several times. A conducted energy weapon was deployed by officers, and the suspect was taken into custody.

The victim from the basketball court had minor physical injuries. The officer was not physically injured, and the suspect was taken into custody without further incident.

A female who had been with Linklater was also taken into custody. The 18-year-old was released with a court date.

Linklater is charged with Discharge Air Gun or Air Pistol with Intent x2, Assault with Weapon, and Carrying Concealed Weapon. He also had an outstanding warrant out for his arrest for a previous robbery matter that occurred in 2022.

Linklater has been remanded in custody.
