Suspect in Custody After Man Wielding Knife Reported in Hay River

On July 8th, 2024, Hay River RCMP received multiple reports of a man wielding a knife in the downtown area of Hay River. Officers attended and took 3 people believed to be involved in the incident into custody without issue. 2 knives were recovered.

2 of the people arrested were later released without charge.

As a result of the investigation 41-year-old Randall MANDEVILLE was charged with Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose, contrary to section 88(2) of the Criminal Code. He was held to appear before a Justice of the Peace and released to appear in Hay River Territorial Court

An initial report indicated that the accused may have been threatening the nearby MLA constituency office, which was determined to be false. Investigation revealed that the male was involved in an altercation with an unknown person who fled the area prior to police arrival.

There is not believed to be any further risk to the public at this time. No injuries were reported as a result of this incident.
