Six youth involved in local Break and Enter

Six youth between the ages of 11 to 15, have been identified in a break and enter that occurred at the local Canada Post office in Cambridge Bay, Nunavut.

On November 20, 2024, at approximately 2:00 a.m, the Cambridge Bay RCMP received a complaint from the local Post Master, who told police that their surveillance system had been activated and that people had been seen inside the post office. RCMP members arrived on scene, and were given access to the building by the Post Master. Upon entry, RCMP officers located six youth, who were arrested and taken into RCMP custody.

Two youth under the age of 12, were warned and released to their parents/guardian without charges.

The other four youth between the ages of 13 and 15 were charged with the following offences:
• Break and Enter, Section 348(1)(a) C.C
• Theft under $5000.00, Section 334(b) C.C
• Mischief Under $5000, Section 430(4) C.C
• Possession of Property Obtained by Crime, Section 354(1) C.C
• Possession of Break-In Instrument Section, 351(1) C.C

"The Cambridge Bay RCMP detachment thanks all who came forward with information regarding recent break ins to the Post Office. Any further information regarding the previous break ins is welcome. Anyone who has had property stolen from any of these break ins, please report the lost property to the RCMP detachment," said Cambridge Bay RCMP Detachment commander, Sergeant Shane Walker
