December 23rd, 2024, RCMP Headquarters, PEI… PEI RCMP checked thousands of drivers at checkpoints last Friday, stopping 7 impaired drivers.
On December 20th, 2024 PEI RCMP conducted check points across PEI including some with policing partners Summerside and Kensington Police. The PEI RCMP Traffic Services alone arrested six impaired drivers with check points in Morell, Avondale, Caledonia, Vernon Bridge, and Fort Augustus. Queens District stopped the 7th impaired driver.
Here is a breakdown of the December 20th checkpoints:
- 2:46 p.m. Morell, a 65-year-old man was arrested for impaired operation by cannabis
- 3:00 p.m., Morell, a 31-year-old man was arrested for impaired operation by cannabis
- 3:27 p.m. Caledonia, a 58-year-old woman was arrested for impaired operation by cannabis
- 4: 28 p.m., Caledonia a 49-year-old woman was issued a summary offence ticket for operating a motor vehicle while disqualified.
- 5:45 p.m., Vernon Bridge, a 31-year-old man was arrested for impaired operation by cannabis
- 6:08 p.m., Warren Grove, a 63-year-old woman was arrested for impaired operation by alcohol
- 6:46 p.m., Vernon Bridge a 48-year-old man was arrested for impaired operation by cannabis
- 7:34 p.m., Fort Augustus a 41-year-old woman was arrested for impaired operation by alcohol with two youths in the vehicle at the time.
Check points are a key tool in addressing impaired driving; PEI RCMP wishes to remind everyone to plan for a safe sober drive this holiday season. "If you see a driver who could be impaired, call 911 and provide a description of the vehicle and driver, a licence plate number, and the direction the vehicle is travelling" said Acting Media Relations Officer Kevin MacKay for the Prince Edward Island RCMP.
