On June 18 at 6:24 pm, Dawson City Detachment received an SOS message from a satellite communicator of a serious motorcycle crash approximately one-hour North of Eagle Plains on the Dempster Highway. Dawson City officers attended via road in addition with an emergency medical response via helicopter. The rider, 67-year-old male from Michigan, U.S was airlifted to Dawson City hospital and then to Whitehorse General Hospital. Investigators noted that the rider was possibly wearing an airbag system backpack designed for motorcycles. The motorcycle rider later told police this device may have saved his life. This collision is still under investigation by the Dawson City RCMP Detachment.
