News release

The Yukon Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) investigated a vehicle that was connected to several recent flights from police. As a result of this investigation, Joseph (Joey) Donald Allison (35 years) and Ashley Patricia Schultz (33 years) were arrested and charged with multiple offences.

On July 23, 2024 at approximately 8 pm, police observed a vehicle parked at Robert Service Campground, this vehicle had previously fled from police at police-initiated traffic stops. A CRU officer observed two people inside the vehicle, in the driver and passenger seats, using what they believed to be illegal drugs. They suspected a third person was also in the vehicle.

While the male driver, identified as Mr. Allison, was outside the vehicle, police approached, activated their emergency lights, and blocked the suspect vehicle. While the officers were advancing towards the suspect vehicle, Mr. Allison re-boarded the vehicle in the driver's seat, started the truck and revved the engine. With concern for safety and in effort to prevent the driver from driving away, officers smashed out the driver and passenger windows, told the male he was under arrest, and attempted to remove him from the vehicle. Mr. Allison put the vehicle in gear, accelerated into the police vehicle, pushed past it and escaped, driving aggressively. Police did not pursue the vehicle.

On July 24, 2024 at approximately 6:30 pm, CRU officers observed the same suspect vehicle stopped at the gas station on McIntyre Drive. Mr. Allison was observed to exit the vehicle. An officer placed him under arrest and Mr. Allison ran away on foot. After a brief foot pursuit, Mr. Allison continued to struggle and resist arrest. After the arrival and assistance of an additional officer, Mr. Allison was taken into police custody.

While Mr. Allison was being arrested, the female passenger, Ashely Schultz, attempted to leave in the vehicle, but was stopped and arrested by another CRU officer.

A search of the vehicle located a prohibited modified shotgun in the driver footwell of the vehicle. Both Mr. Allison and Ms. Schultz were held for court and are facing numerous motor vehicle and firearms related offences.

Mr. Allison and Ms. Schultz are jointly charged with possession of a prohibited weapon without a licence, and being an occupant in a motor vehicle, knowing there is a prohibited firearm.

Mr. Allison is additionally charged with offences that occurred July 24, 2024: Assault on a police officer, resist arrest, operate a motor vehicle while prohibited, breach of a probation order, and possession of a prohibited firearm while prohibited.

Mr. Allison was charged with offences that occurred July 23, 2024: Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, operate a motor vehicle while prohibited, breach of probation order and fail to stop for police while driving a motor vehicle.
