Update: The human remains have since been identified as the missing 33-year-old man from Esgenoôpetitj First Nation, N.B. Our thoughts are with the deceased man's family, friends, and community.

The Neguac RCMP is investigating the discovery of human remains on Esgenoôpetitj First Nation, N.B.

On July 21, 2024, at approximately 6 p.m., with the public's help, members of the Neguac RCMP located human remains along the shore of Burnt Church River, on Esgenoôpetitj First Nation. The remains were discovered in an area of interest in the search for a missing 33-year-old man from Esgenoôpetitj First Nation, who was last seen on July 16, 2024. Police have not yet confirmed the identity of the remains.

The investigation is continuing to identify the remains and to determine the cause of death.
