News release

Lunenburg District RCMP is investigating a fatal collision that occurred in Martins River.

On August 3, at approximately 10:10 a.m., Lunenburg District RCMP, fire services, and EHS, responded to a report of a collision on Hwy. 103, east of Exit 10.

RCMP officers learned that a westbound Mazda CX-5 collided with one, and possibly two, semi-tractor trailers – one travelling eastbound and one travelling westbound.

The driver and sole occupant of the Mazda, a 28-year-old Conquerall Mills woman, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The driver and sole occupant of the eastbound semi-tractor trailer, an 85-year-old man from New Germany, was transported by EHS to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver and sole occupant of the westbound semi-tractor trailer was not physically injured.

An RCMP collision reconstructionist attended the scene. The investigation, which is in its early stages, is ongoing.

Hwy. 103, between Exits 10 and 9, was closed for several hours, but has since reopened.

Our thoughts are with the victim's loved ones at this difficult time.
