RCMP Conducts 10 Checkpoints, Identifies 7 Impaired Drivers

December 9, 2024 – Over the weekend, the RCMP in Prince Edward Island conducted 10 checkpoints across the province to deter and address impaired driving. Seven impaired drivers were identified, three of whom were stopped at these checkpoints. Hundreds of cars were checked and 4 people were arrested at checkpoints including 3 impaired drivers and one woman unlawfully at large.

Checkpoints were set up in the following communities:

  1. Kinkora
  2. Wilmot
  3. Valleyfield
  4. Stratford - Checkpoint conducted in partnership with MADD Canada, Stratford Fire Department, and The Department of Highway Safety.
  5. Stratford – A second Checkpoint was conducted
  6. Lower Montague: A woman was arrested for being unlawfully at large, she was supposed to be serving a week end sentence. She was charged with being unlawfully at large and taken into custody.
  7. Wheatley River: 3 impaired drivers identified in just 1.5 hours.
  8. New London
  9. Slemon Park
  10. Brudenell

The impaired driving files included cases involving both alcohol and drugs:

December 6, 2024: Bonshaw – Impaired by alcohol.

December 6, 2024: Mount Mellick – Impaired by drugs.

December 7, 2024: Wheatley River – 3 cases of drug impairment.

December 7, 2024: North Rustico – Impaired by drugs.

December 8, 2024: Montague – Impaired by alcohol.
