RCMP charge man after shot fired in Three Mile Plains

West Hants RCMP Detachment has charged a man after a disturbance involving a firearm in Three Mile Plains.

On June 19, just before 10 a.m., West Hants RCMP Detachment responded to a residence on Panuke Rd. after someone reported hearing a gunshot. The investigation determined that two men who were both known to each other, were involved in a verbal dispute when one man presented a firearm and fired a shot. No one was physically injured.

Officers surrounded the area and the suspect approached them in a truck. The man refused to follow police commands and reversed his vehicle into a nearby ditch. The man climbed out of the truck and a conducted energy weapon (CEW) was deployed, after which the man was arrested.

The truck was searched and officers located and seized a loaded .30-06 rifle, along with ammunition.

Wallace Barkhouse, 35, of Three Mile Plains, was remanded into custody to appear in Kentville Provincial Court on June 21 at 9:30 a.m. He is facing the following charges:

  • Careless Use of a Firearm
  • Possession of a Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
  • Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
  • Unsafe Storage of a Firearm
  • Failure to Comply with a Condition of Undertaking (2 counts)

The investigation is ongoing.
