Following a recent investigation completed by the RCMP-RNC Integrated Internet Child Exploitation Unit (IICE), 23-year-old William Vey of Portugal Cove-St. Philips was arrested and is charged with a number of additional online child exploitation offences.
On December 11, 2024, as part of an investigation in to online child luring, RCMP-RNC IICE Unit, with assistance of RNC Patrol Services, executed a search warrant at a home in Portugal Cove-St. Philips where Vey was arrested. A number of items were seized from the home.
Vey attended court on Wednesday and was remanded into custody. A bail hearing will take place on December 17, 2024. He is charged with the following criminal offences in relation to this investigation:
- Child Luring
- Extortion
- Failure to comply with a condition of a release order
Vey is currently before the court in relation to charges laid in April, 2023, from a separate RCMP-RNC IICE Unit investigation involving online child exploitation offences. His next court appearance with respect to those charges is scheduled for a January 13, 2025.
The investigations are continuing.
