Lewisporte RCMP responds to disturbance at CIBC bank, man arrested

Following a report of a disturbance at the CIBC bank in Lewisporte that occurred on December 18, 2024, 59-year-old Lawrence Clarke of Corner Brook was arrested by Lewisporte RCMP and is charged with a number of criminal offences, including assaulting a police officer.

Shortly before 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Lewisporte RCMP were called to the report of a disturbance at the bank involving Clarke. Upon arrival, officers confirmed that Clarke had been banned from the property and was refusing to leave. As officers attempted to escort Clarke from the bank, he became aggressive, assaulted one officer, threatened another and resisted arrest. He was taken into police custody without further incident.

Lawrence Clarke is charged with the following criminal offences:

  • Causing a disturbance
  • Assaulting a police officer
  • Resisting arrest
  • Uttering threats
  • Failing to comply with a condition of a release order

He attended court on December 19, and was released on a number of conditions. Clarke's next court appearance in relation to these charges is set for January 21, 2025.
