News release

Kings District RCMP is investigating a fatal motorcycle crash that occurred near Chipmans Corner, Kings County.

On September 17 at approximately 4:10 p.m., Kings District RCMP responded to a report of a motorcycle crash near the 200 block of Middle Dyke Rd. RCMP officers learned that a Kawasaki ZX 1000 motorcycle was travelling at high speeds when it crashed.

Traffic enforcement efforts were underway on Middle Dyke Rd. at the time by Kings District RCMP officers, when this motorcycle was first observed operating at a high rate of speed. Officers were not in a position to safely attempt a traffic stop and lost sight of the motorcycle; the crash was reported soon afterward by other witnesses.

Police and bystanders provided first aid to the driver and sole occupant of the motorcycle. The 35-year-old New Minas man was transported to hospital by EHS and then pronounced deceased.

An RCMP collision reconstructionist attended the location of the crash, and the investigation is ongoing.

Middle Dyke Rd. was closed for several hours and has since reopened.

Our thoughts are with the victim's loved ones during this difficult time.
