Kimmirut man charged with Attempt Murder

On July 15, 2024, at approximately 10:30 p.m. the Kimmirut RCMP responded to a report of a person shooting a firearm from their residence. When police arrived, the suspect began shooting at RCMP officers, striking the police vehicle. The suspect fled on ATV (All Terrain Vehicle) and was later located while being restrained by local residents. By 11:00 p.m. the suspect was arrested and placed into RCMP custody.

On July 16, 2024, the Nunavut RCMP Major Crimes Unit charged Nathan Padluq (22 years old), with two counts of Attempt Murder, Section 239(a) C.C and one count of Assault, Section 266 C.C

Padluq is currently in RCMP custody and is scheduled for a Remand Hearing on July 17, 2024.
