On December 10, 2024, at approximately 4:40 pm, Gimli RCMP were called to a disturbance at a residence on 4th Avenue in Gimli.

When officers arrived on scene, they were advised that a 23-year-old male was in one of the back rooms of the residence and needed to be removed.

When they entered the room, there were two males in the room, one of them pointing a black pistol with the laser pointer activated.

Officers ordered the male holding the firearm to drop the weapon, at which point a scuffle broke out between the two suspects over the firearm. At that point, an officer who tried to intervene was fired at by one of the males with the replica firearm, striking him in the chest.

The officer was not physically injured and was able to get the suspect under control and was arrested at the scene.

A closer examination of the replica firearm determined that it was loaded with .43 caliber ball bearings.

Christian Carter, 23-years-old, from Gimli, was remanded into custody on the following charges:

  • Discharge Firearm with Intent
  • Careless Use of a Firearm
  • Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purposes x2
  • Pointing a Firearm
  • Assault on Police Officer with Weapon
  • Resist/Obstruct Peace Officer
  • Uttering Threats Against a Person x 2

Gimli RCMP continue to investigate.
