Gander RCMP arrests man for armed robbery of taxi driver

Gander RCMP has arrested 29-year-old Carson Coates for armed robbery after an incident in a taxi cab which occurred on June 26, 2024.

Police received a report of the robbery which occurred just after 4:00 a.m. yesterday. Upon arriving at his destination, a male patron, later found to be Coates, threatened the cab driver with a sharp object, demanding money. Coates stole a small amount of money from the vehicle before departing without paying the fare. The driver was not injured.

As the result of the investigation, police arrested Coates yesterday afternoon. He appears in Gander Provincial Court today to answer to the following charges:

  • Robbery with a weapon
  • Possession of a weapon dangerous to the public
  • Carrying a concealed weapon
  • Breach of Probation
  • Breach of a Prohibition Order

The investigation is continuing.
